Finished Watercolour Birds of a Feather

All finished! I didn’t add drips to this one. Maybe if the scale had been bigger (this is only 16×12 inches) I would have added them. It’s all framed a looking pretty now but what do you guys think? 🙂

Where do you think I should go from here?

Exhibition Night

Exhibition Night

Well my first charity auction was definitely an experience!
A few negatives first: the paintings were not placed on display and were auctioned at first sight. Also they were auctioned all together rather than individually. I was surprised I sold any!
But positives: I sold 4 paintings and nearly £6,000 was made for prostate cancer 🙂 I also have a commission set up who I will be speaking to next weekend. I also learnt valuable lessons:
1. Try not to take peoples comments to heart.
2. Know you’re limitations
3. Be more positive.

The painting that sold the most happened to be the one I was considering not taking because I didn’t think it was good enough! Lesson learnt 🙂

Exhibition

Exhibition

It was very sudden but Monday evening I was asked if I would like a charity to buy my work off me so they could sell it off at auction. I was completely flattered!
I have eight ready… so I need to wack out 2 more before Friday evening.
The charity are going to buy them all for £30 each and then anything more will then go to the charity. So I have the potential of making £300 on Friday night without taking a single item of clothing off! Haha!
I know £30 isn’t a lot – thinking purely selfishly here – but I’m also pretty strapped for cash for some oncoming news that I will review later this month *shhh secret squirrel*
Also it would be really interesting to see how much they would go for! (Again thinking purely selfishly)
I’m thinking of doing a peacock as my number 9. What do you think? 🙂

Owl 2

Owl 2

Something that I never thought I could do would be to paint in front of someone. If you have read my very first blog entry, you’ll know that I was unwilling to even show people work that I was quite proud of.
It was my sisters birthday and she has a weird obsession with owls.
; Purses, t-shirts, ornaments, jewelry – she’s a strange and wonderful creature. So being skint as I generally am, I decided to paint and giver her a ‘Samantha Burnett Original’.

She wasn’t too fussy but insisted I put in the second eye – spoil sport 🙂
Now she has it above her desk in her room and whenever she gets stressed out or annoyed she just looks up and thinks how amazing her big sister is! Haha!

Snotty Bunny

This one is certainly one of the weirder paintings I’ve created. Trying to create my own sense of style I played around with a few ideas. I completed the nose last and thought “Shit. I’ve ruined it.” But then I had a look at what it looked like in a frame and thought art lovers are fickle creatures; I might not want to have something like that on my wall but maybe someone will.
Unsurprisingly, this is still in the Art Shop, hahaha!

Hedgehog

Hedgehog

Behold! The first painting I ever sold!
My work was in the Art Shop for nearly 3 months and nothing had sold. “Lots of interest” but not a buy.
It was the 2nd of February 2014 when I was told my little A4 Hedgehog had sold for £40. They even let me keep the frame as “they already had one waiting for it”.
Needless to say, I was chuffed to bits *grin*
